The Medal of Saint Benedict

Many wear it every day,
Yet never know its sacred worth.
It is not a charm or talisman;
It calls us to a life with God.
It reminds us of the Holy Cross,
Where Christ conquered sin and death.
It is the sign of living hope,
Our Savior’s everlasting love.

“Let the dragon never be my guide.”
For the ancient dragon is Satan,
But Jesus Christ alone is Lord.

“Begone, Satan!
Never tempt me with empty things.”
Your lies can never overcome
The truth my Savior brings.
S.M.Q.L.I.V.B. means:
“What you offer is evil;
Drink your own poison.”
I belong to Christ forever;
His Cross has won the victory.

This holy medal helps remind me
Of the words God’s Scriptures say:
“Resist the devil,
And he will flee from you.”
James 4:7
I do not trust in metal objects,
Nor in anything made by man.
My faith is placed in Jesus Christ,
The risen Lord, the Great I Am.
