[Verse 1]
Seamus McGinty from Kilkenny town,
Was digging in his garden, looking down,
When up popped a leprechaun, three feet tall,
In a tiny green suit and hat and all!
[Verse 2]
"I've caught you now!" said Seamus with a grin,
"Give me your gold or I'll do you in!"
The leprechaun laughed and said "My friend,
This won't turn out the way you intend!"
[Chorus]
Oh, Seamus and the leprechaun,
Dancing round from dusk till dawn,
Chasing gold that isn't there,
Poor old Seamus pulling out his hair!
Diddle-dee, diddle-dum,
Seamus you're a special one,
The leprechaun's too smart by far,
You'll never catch him, there you are!
[Verse 3]
The leprechaun said "The gold's behind that tree,"
Seamus ran but found a sleeping bee,
It stung him right upon his nose,
The leprechaun was laughing at his woes!
[Verse 4]
"Try again!" the little man declared,
"The treasure's buried over there!"
Seamus dug from morning until night,
Found nothing but his neighbour's washing line!
[Chorus]
Oh, Seamus and the leprechaun,
Dancing round from dusk till dawn,
Chasing gold that isn't there,
Poor old Seamus pulling out his hair!
Diddle-dee, diddle-dum,
Seamus you're a special one,
The leprechaun's too smart by far,
You'll never catch him, there you are!
[Verse 5]
"One more chance!" said Seamus getting mad,
"This is the worst day I've ever had!"
The leprechaun pointed to a well,
Said "Jump in there and you'll find it, I can tell!"
[Verse 6]
Seamus jumped in with a mighty splash,
Found no gold, no silver, and no cache,
Just dirty water, mud, and frogs,
While the leprechaun danced on nearby logs!
[Verse 7]
Seamus climbed out, soaking to the bone,
His wife came out with a furious tone,
"What've you done to my garden, you eejit fool?!"
The leprechaun said "That's my golden rule!"
[Verse 8]
The little man said "I'll make you a deal,
I'll show you gold that's actually real,
Just close your eyes and count to ten,
And you'll be rich beyond all men!"
[Bridge]
Seamus closed his eyes and counted slow,
"One, two, three," on he did go,
By the time he reached number ten,
The leprechaun was gone again!
[Verse 9]
He'd taken Seamus's boots and hat,
His wallet, watch, and welcome mat,
His garden spade and washing line,
Left poor Seamus in a terrible bind!
[Verse 10]
Now Seamus sits there in the mud,
Covered head to toe in crud,
His wife's gone off to stay with mother,
And Seamus hasn't got another!
[Final Chorus]
Oh, Seamus and the leprechaun,
Now the little man has gone,
Took his boots and took his gold,
Left poor Seamus in the cold!
Diddle-dee, diddle-dum,
Seamus you're the foolish one,
Should've known from the very start,
You can't outsmart the fairy art!
Oh, Seamus learned it well,
Never trust a leprechaun's spell!
