Choose Me

As the clocks keep ticking and the time keeps passing, I’m watching everybody find somebody while I’m asking, When am I gonna be somebody’s first choice? Not somebody waiting around,

Not somebody only wanted when there ain’t nobody else around.

I imagine all the possibilities,

Maybe that’s what keeps on killing me.

I build something beautiful inside my head,

Then reality comes around and reminds me

Its all pretend.

And I keep trying,

Going down the same roads,

Giving too much of myself

Just hoping somebody holds me close.

When will I learn?

Man, I really don’t know.

I tell myself to let it go,

Then loneliness says, “Try once more.”

I can’t keep doing this to myself,

Putting my heart through the same damn hell.

I don’t need somebody to take my pain,

I know that’s mine to carry anyway.

I just want somebody who looks at me

And doesn’t have to question what they see.

Someone who could have other choices

Look at everything I am

I wanna be enough as me.
