The waves came in so fast I didn't have time to brace
One crisis on top of another — I could barely find my face
The marriage was unraveling, the money was running thin
The diagnosis from the doctor — and then the grief set in
And I was in the boat — I had Jesus in the boat
But He seemed to be sleeping while I was trying to stay afloat
And I shook Him in desperation — "Lord, don't You care that we're going down?"
And He rose and He looked at the water and He said, "Peace — be still" — and I didn't drown

The same voice that created the ocean can calm it this morning
He said "Peace, be still" and the wind obeyed Him
He said "Peace, be still" and the waves laid down

You are the master of every sea — speak peace to the storm in me
I learned that day that calm doesn't come from the absence of trouble
It comes from the presence of the One who can cut through the rubble
Because the storm didn't disappear before He spoke — it raged at full roar
But the moment He opened His mouth, even the wind knew who He was for
So I stopped waiting for the chaos to quit before I could have peace
And started calling on the name above all names — and found release
In the middle of the hurricane, with the walls still shaking around me
I found an anchor for my soul — and the peace of God came and found me

What kind of God is this? — that holds the universe and still knows my name
He was there in the beginning when He spoke the waters into place
He spoke galaxies into existence — my storm is not beyond His grace
He calmed the storm for the disciples — He can calm the one in my life
He calmed the war inside a demoniac — He can calm the one in my mind
Peace — be still — peace — be still
His word is a word that the chaos must obey
