Everyday everywhere no one stands beside me. A haunting darkness that looks over my shoulder. The path I’ve chosen since I was 4. A protector a warrior ready willing and able. One more I grab my m4, through the mud and muk I push on. Pain and regret weigh heavy in my chest. Leaving behind those I love, my daughter, my best friends, my brothers and family. This path took everything from me, my happiness, my joy, my relationships my family. I know oh I know you don’t understand why I chose this. It’s something only a protector could do or feel. So oh, oh I know you don’t know. But hold tried and true. I’ll forever be with you and soul and heart. Though this fighting does get exhausting… oh how I wish I was home but I know. I know I can’t go home til the last shots fired. I remember my sister, a fond memory, and once more I grab my m4! I stand tall and proud! A warrior ready for anything anywhere anytime! Please know this, I have no regrets choosing this path. I’ll stand strong and proud with my last defiant breath. Know I love you all… and I won’t let a single enemy passed me. Despite how tired I am, I fight on. Because you are worth it. Seeing y’all happy and care free is what drives me. And I’ll never stop fighting for that. Seeing children and y’all go home to your families is my reward for this path I’ve chosen. And let me tell you…. It’s the best reward I’ve ever been given. Everyday I find myself somewhere new, with new people, people I call brothers… but even still I wouldn’t change a thing. Through the pain and tears settles an emotion I’ve never felt. Pride, pride in the fact I’m protecting y’all. So I smile and continue on. Grabbing my m4 once more. Until, until the last shots fired
