Everyday everywhere I see no one by my side. A haunting darkness looms over my shoulder. Once more I grab my m4. Through the mud and muk I press on. This a path I chose when I was a kid. Now stands a tall proud soldier, ready willing and able. Seeing y’all go home to your families carefree is what drives me. So I continue on. I continue on. My m4, my constant companion. Thoughts dreams nightmares, replay over and over. Now I raise my rifle BANG BANG BANG! Another enemy felled another soul protected! Everyday anywhere anytime! I’ll stand strong tall and proud! My wishes to come home remain abandoned because I know, oh I know, I can’t come home til the last shots fired. My soul grows heavy and my regrets stay in tow. This path took everything from me. My happiness my friends my family. Now I walk alone tears unshed but I stand with pride as I look forward. I left my home, my daughter, and those who love me. To come across the world. To fight an enemy they’ll never see. And I thank God for that. Though the pain is heavy and I grasp my chest, my eyes defiant and filled with fire. I never thought id ever come this far, but… seeing y’all happy and safe is what drives me. So I’ll fight, oh I’ll fight! I’ll continue on and FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! I’ll win this war and God willing I’ll still be standing. Maybe, just maybe I can come home…. But I know I can’t. Not until…not until the last shots fired. So I’ll FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! Until I see… oh until I see my daughter once more. BANG! BANG!BANG! The war rages on as I push the enemy. And God willing oh God willing, I’ll win this war. I run into danger facing death once more but I’ll win this war for you, I’ll stand a strong tall soldier with my last defiant breath! So wait… wait for me, just a little longer. A little longer and I’ll come home to you.
