Before the Scriptures were completed,
before the nations heard His Name,
Christ walked among His chosen apostles
and gave to them His holy way.
He did not leave a scattered people
to walk divided and alone;
He built His Church upon the rock
so all the world might know His throne.
To Simon Peter came the blessing:
“You are the rock on which I build;
the gates of hell shall never conquer
the Church fulfilled by Heaven’s will.”
And Christ, the Head of all creation,
has one true Body joined in grace;
one faith, one baptism for salvation,
one flock united in His Name.
(Pre-Chorus)
The Church of God stands through the ages,
pillar and guardian of truth;
the faith once given to the apostles
still shines unchanged for me and you.
(Chorus)
One Church Christ founded through the apostles,
guided by His Spirit above;
one holy faith handed through ages,
guarded in truth and love.
“Do this in memory forever,”
Christ told the shepherds He had called;
His Body given, His Blood outpoured,
the saving covenant for all.
At the table of the Passover
the Bread of Life was lifted high:
“Take and eat, this is My Body,
given for all before I die.”
Then from the cup He spoke with power:
“Drink of My Blood, the covenant new;
as often as you gather in My memory,
My sacrifice remains with you.”
He sent the apostles to the nations:
“Go preach the Gospel to the earth;
baptize all peoples in My Name
and bring My saving truth to birth.”
“Whoever hears you also hears Me;
who rejects you rejects Me too.”
Thus Christ entrusted to His Church
the mission faithful, holy, true.
(Pre-Chorus)
The Church of God stands through the ages,
pillar and guardian of truth;
the faith once given to the apostles
still shines unchanged for me and you.
(Chorus)
One Church Christ founded through the apostles,
guided by His Spirit above;
one holy faith handed through ages,
guarded in truth and love.
“Do this in memory forever,”
Christ told the shepherds He had called;
His Body given, His Blood outpoured,
the saving covenant for all.
(Bridge)
Christ prayed that all His flock be united,
one in faith and charity;
not torn apart by human division,
but joined in holy unity.
The Church endures through every trial,
through every age and every land;
for Christ remains forever with her,
sustaining her with mighty hand.
(Final Chorus)
One Church Christ founded through the apostles,
built on the rock that shall remain;
one holy faith proclaiming Jesus,
the risen Lord who reigns.
Until the day our King returns,
the Gospel still resounds abroad;
one Body joined beneath one Savior,
the holy Church of God.
The Church of God stands through the ages,
pillar and guardian of truth;
the faith once given to the apostles
still shines unchanged for me and you.
