West On 40

I said goodbye today.

Crossed my heart and hoped to die.

I’ve been spoiled for the last year, Of you being in my life.

We packed up everything you had

And drove out into whatever’s next

Dropped you off in Knoxville, and let God handle the rest.

Now I’m headed west on 40,

With your love fresh on my mind.

Thinking about the woman,

That I just left behind.

And I know, it’s just the distance, and in the end it just costs time.

But that don’t change the way I miss you,

Or the tears I can’t stop crying.

I never thought I’d love someone,

Like I’ve been missing you.

Nothing that I’ve tried

Has changed my heartbreak blues.

The only remedy is being with the love I left out East.

So, I’ll let the sadness live here until the next time we meet

Now I’m headed west on 40,

It’s been 4 years of keeping distance,

And it’s finally time to go.

I’ve got a million different reasons

To bring you back home.

And I’ll cherish all the memories that we made in this place.

But I’ll always hate Knoxville for what it took away.

Talking about the memories

That echo in our minds

And I never thought I’d see the day

We could kiss this place goodbye
