Recently I’ve been thinking
And patching holes in a ship that’s sinking.
I’ve been dropping anchor and shooting flares,
And only drawing blank stares.
I used to look for the silver lining
Where the clouds were covering
The sun that’s shining.
But I often got lost in the overcast
Because the darkness has a way
to make darkness last.
So I’ll sit right here in the shade I’ve made.
No shining sun on this darkened day.
I hope this darkness won’t last forever,
And the sun will break this gloomy weather
I’m still looking for the silver lining.
But the clouds are covering
The sun that’s shining.
So I often get lost in the overcast
Because the darkness has a way
to make darkness last
The more I look the less sun I see.
I guess that it won’t shine on me.
That’s where I find the comfort knowing
That a silver lining is always glowing.
Because no matter how dark the cloudy cover
When the light is gone and the sun is smothered.
The silver linings never hard to find
When you’re not looking at the ground, you’ll find…
That you can find the silver lining.
It’s the hope of sun when it isn’t shining.
Cause way above the the gloomy sky
After all the sun still shines
