I want it on record that I ran the play perfectly.
The play has never not worked.

Timed it to his rest — I'm not an amateur — full eye contact, first-name intro
The smile that closes rooms, the handshake with the pause, the light touch of expertise
"I hear you're the one to ask about programming" — flattery with a deliverable
Executed clean. Textbook. The play that built my entire book of business.

And he took both earbuds out, and listened — fully, warmly, ALL the way —
Answered like a syllabus, courteous, complete, generous, and then
Put the earbuds back and returned to work.
That's it.
No follow-up question. No glance at the glance. No thread left open on purpose.
He gave me the exact same everything he gives the desk girl. THE DESK GIRL.

Nobody files me under everyone. There is no everyone with me in it.
I have never once received a courtesy that wasn't also an opening
And I just got pure courtesy. Weapons-grade. Sealed.

Some mixer, some panel, some handshake I banked and forgot — he accepted ME, once
And the mutuals, my God — my managing partner, two clients, half the chamber
This town is six degrees deep and I've been standing in his network the whole time

Asset column, obviously: existing relationship. Precedent. Warm channel.
I don't cold-call, I re-engage. "Great to reconnect." The oldest close in the book.
And the mutuals mean events, and events mean rooms, and rooms mean reps —
Proximity is a pipeline, and I build pipelines in my SLEEP.
