[Intro]
New intelligence. Unplanned. Material.
Source: two mutuals at the same lunch, unprompted, laughing about it.
Subject: a girl.
Get comfortable. I wasn't.
[Verse 1]
So the mutuals are trading stories and his name comes up — it does that here —
And one goes: "You know he's got a protégé situation? Some college kid from the old gym.
The good-question girl, they call her — his fiancée BRAGS about her —
sends chapters, gets margin notes back, whole thing. Cute story." Cute. Story.
And I laughed along, charming, seamless, and memorized every word
And went home and did what I do. Full workup. Two hours. Here's the file:
[Verse 2]
Twenty-two. State school. Double major, recent. A DIVE STICKER. A deadlift.
No portfolio. No market presence. No leverage, no polish, no PLAY —
I've out-credentialed her since I was EIGHT —
and she's IN. In the network. In the house. In the LORE. Margin notes, plural.
The man immune to my entire portfolio
answers HER. Reads HER pages. Told his fiancée about HER at DINNER.
[Chorus]
The good-question girl — that's the whole legend, that's the entire file
She asked him a QUESTION. At a GYM. That's it. That's the play.
Seven letters and a follow-up. No angle, no assets, no campaign
And every door I've engineered against
just — opened. For that. FOR A QUESTION.
That cannot be the whole play
(it can't be. Run it again. It can't be.)
The good-question girl
(...noted. re— noted.)
[Verse 3]
Working theories, in order of how well I sleep on them:
One: mentorship's a separate market — different asset class, irrelevant to mine. (Slept fine. For a night.)
Two: she found a loophole. Timing, proximity, luck. Loopholes close. (Two nights.)
Three — and I hate three, three hums like the appendix hums —
Three: she paid in the one currency I've never carried
and I don't even know its NAME. I've seen the receipts. I can't read them.
[Verse 4]
So. Next action, logged, and yes I hear how it sounds, and PROCEEDING anyway:
I'm going to find her. Study her. The way I study everything that beats me —
(nothing beats me)
— the way I study everything ANOMALOUS.
A twenty-two-year-old with a dive sticker holds the door I can't unlock
And I hold thirteen years of every door but that one
One of us knows something.
(...it's her. It might be her. NOTED. Proceeding.)
[Chorus]
The good-question girl — the file stays open on my desk now
Next to mine. Two files. One door. One question humming in both
She answered it. Somewhere in that year, the kid ANSWERED it
That's the asset. That's the currency. That's the—
(that's the appendix, and the appendix is now the headline, and I filed it there MYSELF)
The good-question girl
(...noted. proceeding.)
(...toward what, counselor.)
(...noted.)
