My head is a container

Full of garbage God creates

Eating words from a manger

On the lines of the sacred page

I was praying to the stranger

Worshipping the beast

Every word I held as sacred

Turned its eyes on me

I put all my faith in heaven

Now I finally see—

The god I thought was saving

Was the one deceiving me

If searching for a savior

I am cursed and need be saved

But I'm content with my behavior

Trying not to make mistakes

The stranger wears the crown

The beast is on the throne

Every verse I memorized

Was never my own

I gave my soul in faith

Now I see the deceit—

I was kneeling to a god

With the face of the beast

Then my soul fell into danger

When dedicating my good faith

Dancing in the scriptures

Where the beast patiently awaits

From the manger to the page

I devoured every word

Thought I followed something holy

Every promise that I heard

But the voice behind the scripture

Wasn’t what it seemed—

I was led into the darkness

By the author I believed

My emotions move with anger

As my heart fills up with hate

I finally met the stranger

As the truth unveiled his face

Faith in the lie—now I see it

Truth in disguise—I believe it

God or the beast—can’t unsee it

Same face staring back at me
