The ankle strap was shredded
The heel had worn a wedge
My favorite leather sandals were once white
The shine from their imbedded
Little jewels around the edge
Made me smile when sparkling in the light.
I purchased them intending
To transport me away
And experience new paths we’d walk together
Perhaps I’d been pretending
If I treasured them each day
The sandals that I loved would last forever.
My feet felt them decaying
I repaired the clasp with glue.
Still they would not soften with my care.
There’s no use in delaying…
Soon they’ll break in two..
Now ìt seems I’m painfully aware.
They still fit.
I just can’t walk in them anymore
