Darkness Died

The sun was clinging to the sky,
Hoping she could stay –
As dusky shadows begged for one more dance.
Exhaling one last heavy sigh,
Darkness found its way…
Denying sunshine’s quest for warm romance.
Electricity consumes the night,
Its pulse beneath the soil,
Searching still for energy to breathe.
No understanding comes to light.
The air begins to boil –
To survive, it feels all life must leave.
Yet tomorrow’s plans are not in place.
While hastily retreating,
Electric soil ignites and makes us fall.
I once felt sunshine on my face…
Yet now I know that was fleeting –
I had surrendered to the darkened call.
Darkness tries to steal my breath,
While draining my last tears…
I refuse to let mud blind my eyes.
When sunlight slowly rose, I left –
That black night lasted years…
Life begins again when darkness dies.
