Christmas morning in Queensland begins before the sun rises, with kids already wide awake, whispering in their rooms and sneaking down hallways. The house feels alive with excitement as they hover near the tree, staring at the pile of presents they’ve been told not to touch. The air is warm even at dawn, promising a hot summer day.
At last, the parents wake. “Alright, you can open them.” Instantly, the room erupts—paper tearing, laughter echoing, and pure excitement everywhere. Wrapping paper covers the floor so completely you can’t see the carpet, and the kids’ faces are priceless as each gift is opened.
Before long, new toys are in full swing, scattered across the house and out into the yard. The smell of coffee drifts through the air as the first signs of Christmas lunch begin. Soon, family arrives in waves, arms full of food—fresh seafood, colourful salads, coleslaw, snags for the barbecue, pavlova, and cheesecake. The house fills with voices, hugs, and constant laughter.
By lunchtime, the table is overflowing. Everyone gathers, sharing food and stories, with adults recalling their own childhood Christmas adventures. The warmth of the day is matched only by the warmth inside the house.
After eating, the kids rush outside, playing in the heat with their new toys, while inside the adults relax among the mess and chatter. Eventually, everyone drifts back in as dessert is brought out, sweet and generous.
Surrounded by family, laughter, and incredible food, the day feels full in every way—and it’s impossible not to enjoy it, especially when dessert finally arrives.
