(Verse 1)
You might think I'm crazy
You'll probably say I'm a fool
For all I know you'll think I'm drunk
You'll say hey man thats not cool
But let me tell you a story
And I swear its no tall tale
Its about a man named Jonah
Who was swallowed by a whale
(Chorus)
Sometimes these things happen
When the man upstairs calls our name
And He gives us a mission
But we run the other way
Its never smart, its never wise
We can run but we can't hide
Sooner or later we gotta, get on that ride
(Verse 2)
You see Jonah was a man of God
He was called to do His will
God said:
"Listen up Jonah, here's the deal.
Go on down to that wicked city,
The evil is rising like dirty smoke.
I can't stand the smell of it Jonah,
This ain't no joke.
Tell em that I know everything
I see all that they do
If they dont change their ways,
Its the end of them,
Thats why I'm sending you."
(Verse 3)
Jonah didn't wanna go
He went in the opposite direction instead
Jonah knew God would forgive them
For all that they did
"I think I'll get on a ship,
Head the other way.
I don't care about those wicked people.
Come what may."
Oh but God wasn't joking
He didn't make a mistake
He said "My precious Jonah,
You're going swimming today"
(Chorus)
Sometimes these things happen
When the man upstairs calls our name
And He gives us a mission
But we run the other way
Its never smart, its never wise
We can run but we can't hide
Sooner or later we gotta, get on that ride
(Verse 4)
The storm came in and the waves they crazy
Ol Jonah was sleepin and being lazy
The crew looked at each other
They said what have you done
But Jonah knew truth, he was the one
He said its all on me
I serve the one true living God
Just throw me on over
Your troubles will be gone
The men found out that day
Who controls the seas
He's the same one who created
You and me
(Verse 5)
Jonah was sinking, the light was going out
He called out to the creator
God heard Him there's no doubt
God sent a whale, swallowed Jonah in
He stayed in its belly for three whole days
Then the whale spit Jonah out
By the city of sinful ways
Jonah told em, repent and you'll be saved
Sure enough they changed their ways
That's the last we heard of Jonah
But we remember him to this day
