[Verse]
Once, an Engine attached to a train was afraid of a few drops of rain. It went into a tunnel and squeaked through its funnel, and never came out again.
The engine’s name was Henry. His driver and fireman argued with him, but he wouldn’t move. He said “The rain would spoil my lovely green paint and red stripes.” The guard blew on his whistle, and waved his flag, but what do you think Henry did?!
[Pre Chorus]
He just stayed right there in that tunnel.
[Chorus]
‘Tis the Sad story of an engine named Henry…
A big green engine afraid of the rain. He went into a tunnel and squeaked through its funnel, and never came out again.
[Verse]
The Fat Controller came along and he said “We’ll Pull you out.” And when he didn’t help? He said: “My Doctor has forbidden me to Pull.” They pulled hard but that old Henry?! He just stayed in that tunnel.
They tried pushing from the other end too. The Fat Controller didn’t help the people again, ‘cuz he said: “my Doctor has Forbidden me to push” They pushed and pushed, but Henry?! He just stayed in that tunnel.
They even tried to have another engine push him out, and they argued with him still, but That old Henry was so vain; he was still afraid of the rain. The engine pushed as hard as it could, working hard to try to get him to move, but what do you think Henry did?!
[Pre Chorus]
He just stayed right there in that tunnel.
[Chorus]
‘Tis the Sad story of an engine named Henry…
A big green engine afraid of the rain. He went into a tunnel and squeaked through its funnel, and never came out again.
[Verse]
The people gave it up and said to Henry: “We shall leave you there for always and always and always.” They took up the old rails, built a wall in front of him, and made a new tunnel.
Now old Henry he can’t get out, and he watches the other trains rush through the other tunnel. And he was sad because now he knows no one will see his green paint and red stripes ever again. Because you know what he did?
[Pre Chorus]
He just stayed right there in that tunnel.
[Chorus]
‘Twas the Sad story of an engine named Henry…
A big green engine afraid of the rain. He went into a tunnel and squeaked through its funnel, and never came out again.
[Outro]
I think old Henry deserved it. Don’t you?
