[Intro]
It started as a crazy idea
A Roadtrip around Iceland
nothing more than a weekend
around 1000 miles in just three days and three nights
started looking out for places we wanted to see created a long list of them on google maps
Somehow the idea still seemed unrealistic
other people took up to two weeks for the same trip
but we wanted to do something extreme
so we decided to just go for it and took the risk because we wanted to see as much as possible
of this incredible island with his harsh landscapes
we didn't book anything else than just a nice car
4x4 it had to be for all the gravel roads that awaited us there
So our journey began on the 8th of May, getting off the plane around 10pm
We got our car around 11:30 pm and that's where our road trip began
As far away as possible from the capital we wanted to get in this night
to find a nice place to rest in the car next to the street
Rangarping eystra was our first stop
around 3am on the 9th of May
but a crazy hailstorm made sleeping almost impossible
so we hit the road again reaching Skógafoss at 5am
a beautiful waterfall, icy winds inclusive
once again we continued our trip reaching Vík around 6am
visited a scenic church on a hill, walked down a beautiful black sanded beach
where a hailstorm hitted us again
so we went to another black sanded beach close
nice rock formations and high waves made our sunrise a great thing
we did a short hike at the Kirkjubaejarklaustur valley
reached the Jökulsárlón glacier around 1pm and took some nice photos on Diamond Beach
the landscape here changed every 10 miles, we saw some wild reindeer
finally reached our first gravel road at 6pm, ate a pizza and got a hotel for one night
because we needed some rest we got there right on time at 10:30pm, already half around the island on Myvatn lake
one day full of adventure and uncountable short stops on the way
10th of May, day two of our trip started with a nice breakfast, a stop at the lake, visiting a lava cave, a crater the geothermal area of Hverir
spend two hours at a natural bath relaxing in the hot thermal waters
on the road again at 4pm we reached another waterfall at Fosshóll
but quickly advancing into the north western part of the island, where we wanted to see some puffins
but the way was too long, gravel roads and fjords all the time, we decided to stop and sleep in the car next to a fjord at 2am
around 4am on the 11th of May we got back on the road, heading toward Kirkjufell mountain, quick coffee and on the road again
reached the great Geysir at 1pm, continued to the capital and got to Reykjavík at 3pm, walked through the city and enjoyed a beautiful blue sky before heading back to the airport, returned the car, completely tired, waited for the flight, finally we got back to Germany on the morning of the 12th of May

what a crazy trip it was, so many impressions, such beautiful memories, a second road trip to strengthen our friendship and exploring the wild
Iceland someday we will be back
