The Cross of Forgiveness

In the shadows of a heavy sky

A lone soul walks, questions why

Year 33, the burden's deep

A cross he bears, sores run, eyes weep

A prophet hangs on a rugged wood

Silent grace in the face of flood

The homeless man, with pain and doubt

Approaches slow, begins to shout

"It's okay," the Savior sighs

"My time's come, for sacrifice"

"I take this load with humble heart"

"To cleanse the world, to do my part"

Oh, Lord of mercy, hear my plea

Can you open hearts to see?

Burdened by hate, blinded by sin

Can love come clean, can peace begin?

The man looks up, eyes filled with fire

"My lord," he says, "my soul’s mired in mire

Forgiveness is a distant dream

My heart’s consumed, can't hear your scream"

The Lord weak, voice frail and kind

"Did you forgive? That’s where to find

Peace within your weary chest

Leave judgment to the ones above, I confess"

He walks away, the burden lingers

In his heart, the cold still fingers

A cross of pain, a life of strife

Seeking the meaning of forgiveness' light
