[slow guitar and violin intro]
[humble male dialogue]
It was just a rock, or so they say…
But it was where Jeff, Timmy and Joey and I used to play…
To us it was a mountain, a shield, a fortress…
Blocking all the dirt clod bombs hurled like hand grenades or dirt was bullets shot from our pop guns enacting a great battle scene we saw in TV.
It was just a rock, they said when I found it on the river bank. Until it was carved and polished into something I envisioned in my head… the black stone with its chips of silver and clear became a statue for my game in the Ye Olde Towne square.
[saxophone solo]
[nostalgic female dialogue]
It was just a rock… my grandpa said. A part of a wall in some foreign over seas country still embedded with lead… a small memento he took when the concrete chunk saved his life where the bullet struck…. Instead of his head.
[Gruff male dialogue]
It’s just a rock I told my kids, a piece I saved when I was in Germany… concrete and steel some left over graffiti paint from a barricade separating east from west… it was just a rock!
[hard drum intro driving bass]
[Guitar solo]
[verse 1]
So many things in this life
We overlook or take for granted
Not everything means the same to everyone
Some lines straight, some are slanted.
[choir chorus]
It’s just a rock!
Maybe to you but it was so much more to me
It’s just a rock!
It was something that caught my eye you see
It’s just a rock!
It was something where I found beauty
It’s just a rock!
A place a time something that held a memory
It was so much more…. Than a rock!
[Verse 2]
Sometimes the smallest things
Remind us of who we really are
An object that is a place holder
For a memory is stored preserved in a jar
[choir chorus]
It’s just a rock!
Maybe to you but it was so much more to me
It’s just a rock!
It was something that caught my eye you see
It’s just a rock!
It was something where I found beauty
It’s just a rock!
A place a time something that held a memory
It was so much more…. Than just a rock!
[Verse 3]
Like the ring you put on her finger
It is a reminder when love goes faint
To look at the sparkle and not give up
Dust off your memories and wait…
[Bridge]
Because….
It is so much more than how you were found
He came along and picked us up off the ground
He saw more in us than just a trodden stone
He saved us from the rubble and is taking us home!
[choir]
[chief Musicians]
[Final Chorus]
He is our Rock
A firm foundation and not sinking sand
He is our Rock
We were all lost but now found again!
He is our Rock
A broken vessel in the potters hand
He is our Rock!
Molded and shaped in love my friend!
Maybe to some it’s just a rock but to me….
It is so much more…
