Started this poem on the seventh.
had to get a head start before the eleventh.
Wanted to really show you how
much love I owe you for all you have done.
Could have had a simple easy life but you chose to have a son.
Everyday all I can say is I applaud you’re strength and positive outlook.
Always teaching us right from wrong making sure we know life’s no storybook.
Earn what you want don’t taunt or brag and laugh about what others don’t have.
If you have enough for others treat them like a brother and split it in half.
Hey
I’m so grateful even when you’re plates full you go beyond the limits.
If I needed a ride or to vent my feelings I hide you’d be there in minutes.
Grandpa and Grandma Curtis are peering down smiling at there daughter.
Knowing she would one day teach her kids the same lessons they taught her.
You did we learned to have fun as we go also stay safe and responsible.
Cause anything can happen so fasten that seatbelt accidents are possible.
Cause if you died today who’s going to cry for you tomorrow.
Exactly you’re dad and mom not being able to stay calm living in sorrow.
Thank you Madre by the way for dealing with my ass when I was smaller.
Probably would have been easier to buy a leash and collar.
Sorry for making you holler when I would bother for a dollar.
When I couldn’t even gift you the visual of me being a scholar.
Failed you in the past you’re the last person I wanted to see me next to that cruiser.
In the future I promise Madre I will not be a loser.
Never judged my faults didn’t put my spirit on halt.
Loved me anyways if I was black white gay or straight the love was there by default.
She treats anyone equal cause in life you got to live it right there is no sequel.
Be the best you pass life’s tests at the end of the day we are all just people.
Only better decisions for family sake I envision the better me will awake.
Like you say bend don’t break at the end of the day everyone makes mistakes.
Tanya Curtis aka mother thank you for being like no other.
Instead of abandoning me when times are rough you stayed and gave me cover.
Happy birthday Madre
