I turned on the T V and caught the news
In under ten minutes overcome by the blues
Apparently the world is not doing so well
And my once proud America has gone straight to hell
It's hard to graspe the speed things came apart
Even worse the reality this is only the start
It's Twenty twenty five by now we should have evolved
Yet we continue to wallow in issues we should have resolved
With all we have conquered why are we so afraid
Why the refusal to elevate above the messes we've made
A fear filled society enslaved by racism and hate
We don't resist the bold-face lies including that we'll be great
When did we surrender common sense and our spine
Now we receive obvious lies and apparently that's fine
It seems not to matter what we see with our eyes
We are fed a false narrative which they don't even disguise
It makes me sick that we let things go on this way
We may express outrage but not much else to say
We cower and let a corrupt criminal destroy
And accept disturbing behavior as he acts like a little boy

If we emerge from this chaos we still won't get back
Our society forever changed though not perfect before
Now our power reduced and lost stature we can't restore
Are we really sought cowardly we embrace hate based on race
Judging not the person inside but by the look of their face
We've departed from common sense, truth and decency
We witnessed a violent assault on our democracy
Only to have as a result of this terrible travesty
Fifteen hundred convicted criminals released with clemency
So many actions defying our character and logic
The nation we knew Now filed away as nostalgic
