Good Night, Romeo and Juliet
by Robert Ramage
Intro
City lights glow like borrowed stars
Screens light faces, hearts stay dark
No balconies, no poisoned fate
Just love running late
Verse 1
I didn’t hear you say good night
Just the echo of an open door
Feels like a story we half-wrote
Then stopped believing in anymore
We weren’t cursed by family names
No ancient war to fight
Just pride dressed up as armor
And silence every night
Verse 2
I guess it’s not a dream at all
Just waking up with regret in my hands
The weight of it keeps holding us back
And I can’t find the light I thought I’d see
I was hoping for more than this
Hoping I’d wake up someday
And we’d finally realize
What we were letting slip away
Chorus 1 (Poetic / reflective)
Good night, Romeo and Juliet
In modern love, it’s the silence that stares
What’s missing speaks louder than words
Twisting the faith of a once-true heart
Good night, Romeo and Juliet
We lived, we loved, we tried
No death in this story, just truth
And a goodbye we couldn’t outrun or hide
Verse 3
We talked in circles, texted prayers
Hoping timing would bend
But love don’t die in a moment
It fades when you stop choosing it
No dagger drawn, no final breath
Just distance learning how to stay
Two souls still breathing the same air
With nothing left to say
Verse 4
I’m not asking for the past again
Or rewriting what we were
Just a little peace in knowing
We didn’t mean to hurt
If love was real—and I believe
It deserves a softer close
Not enemies, not bitterness
Just letting go exposed
Chorus 2 (Evolved / grounded)
Good night, Romeo and Juliet
In this world, it’s what’s not there that hurts
Modern love bends the faith of a hopeful heart
Till belief comes undone in the dirt
Good night, Romeo and Juliet
We lived, we loved, we tried
No death in this story, just truth
And a goodbye we couldn’t outrun or hide
Bridge
Maybe love’s not meant to last
Forever like the pages say
Maybe it’s here to teach us how
To forgive and walk away
If there’s a lesson in the wreckage
Let it be mercy, not regret
Two hearts leaving the scene alive
From a tragedy we didn’t finish yet
Final Chorus (repeat – slightly softer)
Good night, Romeo and Juliet
In this world, it’s what’s not there that hurts
Modern love bends the faith of a hopeful heart
Till belief comes undone in the dirt
(Music strips down to one instrument)
Spoken Outro (intimate, soft)
It never really had to end this way.
There was so much more we could’ve gained.
But tragedy in the modern world
Rarely ends in anything but pain.
I loved you then… I love you now.
And that’s what makes this so hard somehow.
So if this is where we let it go—
Just know there’s no hate left here.
(pause)
Good night.
