[Intro]
Ceiling. Status report.
The question deployed.
I need to walk you through the whole thing
Chronologically. For the record.
[Verse 1]
So it took me eleven days, but ceiling — I came back with an answer
"Physique and strong and capable" — mine, not borrowed from a planner
Walked up on his rest and said "you asked me what I'm training for. I know now."
And I watched it register: she did the homework. She came back. Okay. Wow.
And my grip question's still in the chamber, version nine, still cited, tight
But this time I had the why behind it. And that changed the whole invite.
[Verse 2]
Timed it to his rest, mid-morning, water bottle down, respect the code
Walked up steady — "quick question, when you're between sets — about grip, it's dumb, or no —"
And he looked at me one second, and I swear he ran a scan
Tourist... hungry... hungry. Confirmed. And then it happened, and
[Chorus]
He took both earbuds out
BOTH. Ceiling, do you get the currency?
One's a courtesy. Two's a conference.
Two is diplomatic recognition, formally
Ask a tourist question, get a nod and a "just google it"
Ask a real one, with your homework done
And the whole door opens up
Both earbuds
Both of them
[Verse 3]
And he didn't even answer first — he asked me questions BACK
"Where's it failing? Bar speed fine? You feel it in your hands or in your back?"
Like a doctor, like a coach, like the problem was a system with a fault
Then: "grip's not your problem, grip's the messenger. Your bracing's where it's lost."
Watched one set. Said "again, slower." One cue. I won't say what.
(It's mine.) The bar felt bolted to the floor and then it FLEW. What. WHAT.
[Verse 4]
And then he nodded. Not the morning nod. The other one. The measured one.
The one I wrote about in winter like a girl describing sun
Said "good question" — put the earbuds back — and that was the whole thing
And I racked my bar and stood there like I'd just been knighted by a king
And the semaphore division clocked it — every flag on every pole
Someone asked me what we talked about. Me. I'm gym lore now. I'm in the scroll.
[Chorus]
He took both earbuds out
BOTH. Ceiling, do you get the currency?
One's a courtesy. Two's a conference.
Two is diplomatic recognition, formally
Ask a tourist question, get a nod and a "just google it"
Ask a real one, with your homework done
And the whole door opens up
Both earbuds
Both of them
[Bridge]
'Cause you can't fake hungry to a man who's been hungry thirty years
He's got a sensor for the difference between curious and sincere
And the door was never locked — I keep on learning this one, huh
It just only opens outward for the ones who bring the work
The homework was the password
The stakes were the ID
I asked him one real question
And he handed one to me
[Outro]
So. Updated inventory, ceiling:
A morning. A nod. A question. A cue.
(Still not saying it. It's mine.)
That's four things. We have four things.
And my deadlift went up ten pounds on TUESDAY.
Next: the follow. I can feel it. Soon.
(...both earbuds)
