I lay watching her sleep
Dreaming childhood dreams
I ask God to give my baby peace
Quietly I slip away
Alone I start my day
Tears falls like rain down my face
I’ve tried so hard to be strong
But a mama can only
Smile for so long
I pray she never knows
The words that were thrown
Like swords in battle Fighting for his soul
I pray she never sees
what he did to me
Like a caged bird I had to break us free
Bruises fade and time heals I’m told
I pray she never knows
Get the chores done for the day
Im humbled along the way
I thank God for what He’s done for me
Hear her laughing down the hall
A little life , so small
Want to give her the world, give her my all
I’ve tried so hard to make this house a home
But four walls without love are just stone
I pray she never knows
How love could feel so lonely
How I held on too long , I had to let him go
I pray she never sees
How a man’s hand can sting
How I had to choose her, why I had to choose me
I did the right thing, we’re better off I’m told
I pray she never knows
