No Rush

I used to keep my plans so neatly

Like the future owed me something new,

But life has never been that tidy—

It changes when it wants to.

So I leave a little room for maybe,

For the things I can't predict,

Some days I get exactly nowhere,

Somehow that's okay with me.

I don't need a map tonight,

I know enough to take a ride.

If I get lost along the way,

I'll probably find a better place.

I'll keep a little hope in my pocket,

A little sunlight in my shoes,

I'll go wherever the day takes me,

I've got nothing much to lose.

Maybe I'll get what I've been wanting,

Maybe I'll want something new.

Either way, I'll keep on going—

Let the rest do what it does too.

There are dreams I still remember,

Some I barely recognize.

Funny how we change our minds

And still call it growing up sometimes.

I don't chase every little answer,

Some questions can wait their turn.

The world won't end by Tuesday

Just because I haven't learned.

So here's to all the almosts,

The maybes and the wrong-way signs.

Not every road needs a reason—

Some are just good for the view sometimes.

I'll keep a little hope in my pocket,

A little sunlight in my shoes,

I'll go wherever the day takes me,

I've got nothing much to lose.

Maybe I'll get what I've been wanting,

Let the rest do what it does too.

I don't have to have it figured out,

That's a lot of work for one life.

I'll make a wish, then make some coffee,

And see what happens by tonight. 😆
