When a wolf loves a phoenix

The moon is hungry and the timber is cold

A restless spirit within a silver mold

I paced the border where the shadows play

Chasing a dawn that felt so far away

My own reflection was a snarling ghost

The bitter rival that I feared the most

Locked in a struggle with a jagged tooth

Hunting for mercy and a drop of truth

Then the sky ignited with a crimson wing

I heard the melody only a goddess could sing

A vibrant flicker in the hollow of night

Drawing the predator toward the holy light

She is the hearth where my heavy heart rests

The golden courage inside of my chest

With a gaze like embers and a soul so deep

She is the promise that I mean to keep

In her radiant kingdom I finally belong

Her gentle grace is what makes me strong

The only map to a world so bright

My beautiful Phoenix, my beacon of light

But the wind turned cruel and the fire went gray

The sun surrendered and she drifted away

Now the smoke is freezing in the vacant air

I am a nomad lost in cold despair

Without her anthem to quiet the beast

The hunger rises for a savage feast

I wander the ruins of a burnt out dream

Nothing is ever as calm as it seem

I watch the pyre where the gray dust lies

Praying for wings to reclaim the skies

Waiting for sparks to return to the black

To bring the warmth of my sanctuary back
