"A Bold Step Towards Ending Graduate Unemployment in Zambia"
By Brizel Chinyemba
As a business student and future leader, I have come to understand one of the biggest challenges holding Zambia back from becoming a truly developed country in Southern Africa — unemployment among graduates.
Zambia invests billions of kwacha in human capital, especially through education. Thousands of students graduate every year with great potential, but they are left stranded, looking for employment from a government that cannot absorb them all. This is the root of our unemployment crisis — a system that ends at graduation instead of creating a bridge to productivity.
Now that I understand the problem, I am committed to becoming part of the solution.
My Vision
I am creating a business-based system that will serve as a Graduate Transformation Hub. All university graduates will be able to pass through this system within 12 months of graduation. Here’s what they will gain:
Practical Work Experience: Each graduate will work on real projects, gaining hands-on skills relevant to the Zambian economy.
Capital Empowerment: By the end of the 12 months, each participant will be positioned to earn over K55,000 Zambian kwacha, either through profit-sharing, savings, or seed capital provided by the system.
Business Guidance & Mentorship: Experts will guide them in starting businesses, building careers, or entering professional industries.
Loan Repayment Readiness: Graduates, especially those on government student loans, will begin repaying confidently, helping replenish the loan fund and making university education accessible to more students.
Why This Matters
This model will not just reduce unemployment — it will create a generation of financially empowered, skilled young people who can lead Zambia’s development in agriculture, technology, construction, education, health, and entrepreneurship.
Zambia must not just educate — Zambia must empower.
Call to Action
This is just the beginning of this journey.
I invite students, graduates, investors, policymakers, and all passionate citizens to join me, Brizel Chinyemba, in building this national transformation engine.
Let us build a Zambia where graduates don’t just seek jobs — they create them. Together, we can.
