Dead Behind The Eyes

The world keeps screaming through the walls,

But I don't hear a thing.

Sirens howl, the buildings burn,

And I just watch the screen.

Faces pass like empty ghosts,

Their voices fade to grey.

I used to feel the weight of it—

Now nothing gets inside me.

I built these walls with every wound,

Brick by brick, stone by stone.

Now nothing reaches through the cracks—

And I can't tear them down.

Watching everything decay!

The world can tear itself apart—

I FEEL NOTHING ANYWAY!

Just static in my veins!

Another headline, another tragedy,

Another name I'll never know.

Another stranger begs for help,

Another door I won't go through.

They tell me I should care again,

They tell me I should feel.

But somewhere underneath the noise,

I think I lost what's real.

I've watched the colors drain away,

I've watched the seasons die.

Now every sunrise looks the same—

A different shade of white.
