Prompt / Lyrics
Izzy (a poem about almost-love) I met a spark, and it was you, A light in all I’m walking through. Late night talks ‘til we ran dry, Hearts wide open, you and I. You laughed at all the things I said, We dreamt aloud, we planned ahead. You knew my soul, you knew my pace, Like fate had set us in our place. We shared our songs, our favorite skies, No need for masks, no need for lies. I swore that something real had grown— A feeling deep, a truth well-known. But then one day, the tone had changed, Your words grew distant, rearranged. And suddenly, you turned around— Went back to him without a sound. Eli’s name now filled your thread, And all those nights replayed in my head. Was I a pause? A stepping stone? A place to rest when you felt alone? You said we clicked, that we were fate, But fate, it seems, showed up too late. You held my heart in open air, Then walked away like it wasn’t there. I won’t pretend I’m over you, Or that I know what’s false or true. But love, for me, was in your name— While you were playing someone else’s game. So here I stand, alone, not mad— Just quietly aching for what we had. You were almost mine, that’s all we’ll be— A ghost of fate that wasn’t for me.
