Short Days Long Nights

The wind whispers secrets

cold against my skin

And here I sit

as the tears begin

The days grow shorter the shadows crawl

Darkness wraps 'round me like a heavy wall

Tears trace rivers down this weathered skin

Will the light ever find its way back in?

The stars don't shine the moon feels cold

This endless night

it takes its toll

'Cause my heart aches so bad

it’s a hollow fight

Will the sun ever end this endless night?

The clock ticks slower when the world feels still

A lonely echo on this lonesome hill

The wind whispers secrets I don’t want to hear

It carries my sorrow

my doubt

my fear

The walls close in

they press so tight

Tears fall like rain in the quiet night

The frost is biting

the ground feels cold

My heart feels heavy

my spirit old

Each star above

a fleeting spark

But they can't chase away the dark

I ask the moon

just a sliver

so pale and thin

Will the light find its way to me

Or am I lost forever in this endless sea?

Night steals the colors leaves me in gray

I count the hours 'til it fades away

The stars may glimmer but they don’t warm the soul

I keep on waiting for the sky to turn gold

They say every winter gives way to spring

But I’ve forgotten what hope can bring
