Ghost in a Crowd

In a crowd, but I stand alone,

Faces fade, but they don’t know me.

Just a passerby in the twilight zone,

Just a whisper, then I’m gone, you see.

Jumping groups like a restless breeze,

Familiar smiles that never seize,

They’ll say they met me under neon lights,

But the feelings lost, out of their sights.

And I catch myself longing, but never near,

Dreaming of touch that I just can’t steer.

She walks by, my heart skips a beat,

Outta my league, and I retreat.

Just a shadow in the glow,

Eye candy passing by so slow.

So wild, with their skin tight clothes,

Behind the counter, my courage closes.

Oh, I’m the ghost in the store,

They can feel me, but they want more.

When a girl smiles, I feel the fright,

So I hide in the corner, out of sight.

In my mind, we’d dance in the rain,

But reality whispers, “What’s the gain?”

I’d rather dream, safe in my shell,

Than risk the truth of a love unspoken well.

Conversations that fade like afternoon light,

I type and delete, my pulse ignites.

A chance encounter, lost in the waves,

I lock my heart in a web I’ve made.

No bra, no care, wild and free,

Their laughter hums like a sweet melody.

But I stand still, a mannequin proud,

Afraid to be lost in the crowd.

Just a shadow in the glow,

So close, yet so far from the day,

My heart’s race drifting away.

Oh, I’m the ghost in the store,

They can feel me, but they want more.
