Prompt / Lyrics
The Hebrews groaned in Pharaoh’s land. Their cries went up, Jehovah planned. He sent his servant, staff in hand. To free his people by command. The Nile ran red, like flowing blood. The fish all died beneath the flood. The land stank foul, no gentle breeze, But Pharaoh’s heart refused to ease. Ten mighty plagues on Egypt’s pride. Jehovah stood by Israel’s side. The gods of men were put to shame, He proved his power, He proved his name. From riverbanks the frogs poured out. In every bed, in house and hut. They filled the ovens, food, and floor, Yet Pharaoh hardened like before. He struck the dust, it turned to gnats. On beast and man, on kings and brats. Then swarms of flies filled Egypt’s sky, But spared the tents where God’s own lie. Ten mighty plagues on Egypt’s pride. Jehovah stood by Israel’s side. The gods of men were put to shame, He proved his power, He proved his name. The herds of Egypt fell and died. But Israel’s flocks stayed safe aside. Then boils broke out on beast and men, Yet Pharaoh’s heart grew hard again. Jehovah warned of hail and flame. It crushed the crops and men the same. But where his people dwelled in peace, The storm passed by; their fields knew ease. Ten mighty plagues on Egypt’s pride. Jehovah stood by Israel’s side. The gods of men were put to shame, He proved his power, He proved his name. Then locust clouds like living night. Ate every leaf in Pharaoh’s sight. He begged for prayer, confessed his wrong, But turned again when pain was gone. Three days the darkness weighed like stone. No lamp or fire, each sat alone. Yet light still shone in Goshen’s place, Jehovah’s care for his own race. Ten mighty plagues on Egypt’s pride. Jehovah stood by Israel’s side. The gods of men were put to shame, He proved his power, He proved his name. The last dread word Jehovah spoke. At midnight Egypt’s firstborn broke. But marked by blood on post and side, His people saw death’s angel slide. The cry rose up through Egypt’s night. “Now take your flocks and take your flight”! With staff in hand, by faith they trod, Beneath the watchful eyes of God. Ten mighty plagues on Egypt’s pride. Jehovah stood by Israel’s side. The gods of men were put to shame, He proved his power, He proved his name. So when the world seems dark and strong. Remember He won’t wait too long. The God who judged that haughty throne, Will bring his people safely home! Ten mighty plagues on Egypt’s pride. Jehovah stood by Israel’s side. The gods of men were put to shame, He proved his power, He proved his name. He proved his power, He proved his name.
