Love Lies

I don’t know where my love lies,

Somewhere deeper than the sea.

Maybe where the galaxies

Stretch their arms to carry me.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen stars,

Or a twinkle in my eyes.

While the ocean roars beneath

Those candy-painted skies.

Every road I take just leaves

Another question in the breeze…

Where does my love lie?

Is it waiting somewhere I’ll never find?

Past the waves and open skies,

Past the places I’ve left behind.

Is it calling out my name?

Or hiding where the daylight dies?

I keep searching every horizon…

Still don’t know where my love lies.

Maybe in a warm, green meadow,

Beneath an old sycamore tree.

Maybe somewhere far away,

Still patiently waiting for me.

Maybe it went up in flames,

Locked inside Eternal City.

Maybe like a phoenix rising,

Fearless… wild… and free.

Maybe it’s frozen to the touch,

Holding colors no one sees.

Maybe it’s where the saguaros stand,

Guarding ancient desert dreams.

Or blooming soft beside

A Cherokee rose.

Maybe my heart already knows…

But it’s too afraid to go.

Where does my love lie?

Somewhere between the earth and sky.

Past the echoes of yesterday,

Where forgotten dreams survive.

If the stars still remember me,

Maybe one night they’ll reply.

Until then I’ll keep believing…

I’ll find where my love lies.

The ocean still roars beneath

Candy-painted skies…

And someday, somehow…

I’ll know where my love lies.
