Joseph’s wonder

The road was long, the night was cold

The weight of heaven in my soul

I found no place to lay His head

So love was born where cattle fed

The stars leaned close to see His face

I held my breath in holy space

The promise whispered through the years

Was crying softly in my ears

I held the Son of God tonight

The Word made flesh beneath my eyes

I don’t understand, but I believe

That heaven’s King now rests with me

I held the Son of God tonight

Her trembling hands wrapped Him in cloth

The One who spoke the world to us

The same small hands that formed the skies

Now reached for me with newborn cries

And though I’m just a simple man

You chose my heart to hold Your plan

To raise the child who’d wear the crown

To lift the world and lay it down

I don’t understand, but I believe

How could I teach the Lord to walk

When He’s the One who taught the stars to talk?

How could I show the way to stand

When all creation rests in His hands?

Still You called me “Father” through Your tears

And I’ll protect You all my years

Love wrapped in grace, wrapped up in light

And though the world won’t see just yet

The cross and crown are in this breath

Sleep now, my King…
