A Child’s Wasteland

Somewhere in the night, a little child cries

He runs up to his room where he tries to hide

Trying to keep the tears from falling upon his face

Praying that God above would take him from this place

No matter where he runs the sound echoes in his ears

The anger in his father’s voice fills his heart with fear

He runs into his closet and closes the door so tight

Wondering why his daddy has to hit him every night

Every night he stands alone in the shadows of fear

Hoping that these words his father will one day hear

Father father please forgive me

Though I know not what I’ve done

Please don’t hurt me, please don’t hit me

I’ll try and be a better son

He says his prayers every night before he lays down

But you know you can’t sleep if you’re afraid of every sound

He stares at the ceiling wondering what he’s doing wrong

Hoping that one day soon his pain will all be gone

Every night he stands alone in the shadows of fear

Hoping that these words his father will one day hear

Father father please forgive me

Even though he’s just a child

He’s going to grow up so fast

How can you have a future

With a wasteland for a past

Every night he stands alone in the shadows of fear
