Sometimes you lose yourself
Trying to hold on to everything else.
And sometimes rock bottom
is the first place you finally hear your own voice.
I been waking up tired in a house full of dreams,
Looking in the mirror, don’t recognize me.
Had a heart full of plans, now it’s cracks in the seams,
Funny how you lose yourself trying to chase what you need.
I watched some things fade that I swore would stay,
Watched pieces of my life disappear day by day.
Had my hands on the wheel but I lost my way,
Kept telling everybody “I’m good” while I faded away.
Depression got a voice, and it knows my name,
Tells me I’m a failure, tells me I’m to blame.
Every mistake I made got a seat at the table,
Every night I couldn’t sleep had me questioning if I’m able.
But I got two little reasons waiting at home,
And a woman who still loves me when I’m barely holding on.
So I wipe my eyes before I walk through the door,
‘Cause my kids don’t need a perfect man—
they need their father more.
I lost myself somewhere along the way,
Lost some things I loved, watched some people change.
Had to hit the bottom just to finally see,
Everything I was looking for was buried inside of me.
So I’m building it back, brick by brick,
Learning how to live with the life I was given.
I might bend, I might break, I might fall sometimes,
But I’ll be there for my family till the day I die.
Yeah, I’m building it back.
I’m building it back.
I ain’t gonna lie, I’ve been scared of the future,
Scared that the man I was ain’t the man I should be.
Scared my children might remember my worst days,
Instead of every time I got down and found a new way.
So I’m learning how to talk when I wanna shut down,
Learning that being strong ain’t never making a sound.
Sometimes strength is saying, “Man, I need some help,”
Sometimes loving your family starts with saving yourself.
I lost money, lost time, lost pieces of my pride,
Lost sleep counting every failure I kept locked inside.
But I gained something back every time I survived,
A little more faith, a little more fight.
And my wife sees the man underneath all the scars,
She knows every battle I don’t talk about in the dark.
When I feel like I’m nothing, she reminds me who we are,
And I swear I’d walk through hell just to get back to her heart.
I lost myself somewhere along the way,
Lost some things I loved, watched some people change.
Had to hit the bottom just to finally see,
Everything I was looking for was buried inside of me.
I lost money, lost time, lost pieces of my pride,
Lost sleep counting every failure I kept locked inside.
But I gained something back every time I survived,
A little more faith, a little more fight.
So I’m building it back, brick by brick,
Learning how to live with the life I was given.
I might bend, I might break, I might fall sometimes,
But I’ll be there for my family till the day I die.
