He said, "Listen to my words: When there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house."

Numbers 12:6-7

“If I were in charge, everything would be better.” This sentiment is shared by many people who haven’t truly experienced the burden of responsibility and leadership. In this episode of Bible in a Year, Aaron and Miriam fall into the trap of thinking they could do Moses’ job better.

Jealousy corrodes relationships. And sturdy relationships are the backbone of any movement.

This episode of sibling rivalry echoes the recurring theme of familial conflict brought by jealousy found throughout the Bible. We saw it with Cain and Abel. We saw it with Joseph and his brothers. Now, we see it with Aaron and Miriam when they plan a coup against Moses.

The story is not merely about the rivalry but also God"s response to such discord. God"s immediate defense of Moses underscores the importance of respecting His chosen leaders. Miriam is struck with leprosy, but God heals her. This shows us the intensity of God’s judgment but the immediacy of His mercy if we repent.
