Invisible

We grew up side by side, through the years and time,

Since the days of kindergarten, in the same old line.

But I barely knew her, not even her name,

Never knew the weight she carried, the price of her shame.

She was the girl who laughed, the one who always stayed,

Helped us with our homework, gave more than she got in rerturn.

Shared her lunch with strangers, her books with the cruel,

Always with a smile, though we were blind and fools.

And she was invisible, though she gave us everything,

Her kindness expected, never appreciated.

Behind her smile were tears, that we never knew,

She was invisible… fading from view.

Evenings full of silence, letters never read,

Scars upon her skin, and words she never said.

She slipped away from school, vanished from our sight,

And I never missed her name—

God knows, I never got it right.

Years passed by, a reunion meet,

They said she’d be there, but she never came.

A whisper in the room, a truth too late,

Her demons claimed her life, sealed her fate.

She was hurting all this time,

But she was invisible, so we never asked her why.

She was invisible, though she gave us everything,

Her kindness was a candle, burning in the wind.

Now her smile is gone, and her laughter too,

She was invisible…

And we never saw her truth.

If only she would have told someone

If only she would have made some noise.

She could have been visible if only she'd been brave.

So in the end, I would have known more than her name

Nothing left but my greatest shame
