Still Waiting by the Wind

I still set a place by the old oak tree,

Where we carved our names when we were free.

The sun sets slower than it used to do—

Feels like it’s waitin’ here for you.

You said, “I’ll be back, just hold on tight,”

So I watched the stars, I held the night.

But the letter came with folded hands,

And not the touch of your promised plans.

But I’m still waiting by the wind,

Where your whisper used to begin.

The porch still creaks when the night blows through,

And sometimes I swear I hear you too.

Love like ours—it don’t just end…

I wear your dog tags on a chain,

They clang like footsteps in the rain.
