Shut the Door to the Past

Yeah, I’m done with it all,

Shutting doors to the past.

Days off from the grind, I took a break,

Put the car in maintenance, time to shake

the dust off these wheels, let the memories fade,

Got in this seat, where the lies were laid.

Looked in the rearview, a painful sight,

All those echoes of fights in the dead of night.

But I’m sealing the door, it’s a brand new way,

Gonna chase the shadows, don’t care what they say.

There’s a dumpster waiting, a promise in sight,

Time to erase it, make everything right.

Clearing out the old like it’s trash on the floor,

I’m done with the shame, won’t carry it anymore.

Let’s throw it away, burn it up,

Shut the door to flashbacks, filling my cup.

I’m sorting through laundry, shedding the weight,

It’s time for a brand new start, can’t be late.

Got the SUV ready, shining and bright,

Fueled by the freedom, under the moonlight.

Every mile driven, cuts through the past,

With every highway, I’m free at last.

Behind me the darkness, ahead just the glow,

I’m hitting the road, let my spirit flow.

No more abuser’s hold, I’m taking control,

With every turn beckoning, I'm finding my soul.
