Between Two Waters

When I was young me and my friends would ride

Through the fields where the rivers divide

Between two waters and a dike so wide

We called it the Dike

my heart’s favorite place to hide

We swim we laugh the sun would never fade

With music and fire, our own parade

Between two waters under endless skies

That’s where my soul still lies

Where I can breathe when the world feels wrong

The Dike still sings my healing song

I’ve been there with lovers with my child in hand

With my parents my friends in that quiet land

We’d dance and play til the stars would rise,

And peace would fall from the midnight skies

Even when life turned me inside out

That place still knew what life’s about

Cold nights and dawns but somehow I’d smile.
