Yeah…
This ain’t a movie.
This ain’t a game.
This is the truth.
Eighteen years old when they put me in chains,
One bad decision changed everything.
Six long years behind concrete walls,
Watching hope get smaller while the darkness calls.
Saw blood hit the floor, watched brothers get stabbed,
Saw too many lives disappear too fast.
People overdosing, trying to numb the pain,
Every single day felt exactly the same.
I got caught up trying to escape it too,
Getting high just to make it through.
Thought I was surviving, but I was losing me,
Living every day without feeling free.
I’ve been home two years, but my mind ain’t left,
Still carrying the weight that’s sitting on my chest.
They see me smiling, think I’m doing alright,
They don’t see the prison living in my mind at night.
I’m still healing, still fighting every day,
Trying to leave the darkest memories away.
They took six years, but they won’t take my soul,
I’m still putting broken pieces back together to be whole.
Freedom ain’t just walking through the prison gate,
It’s learning how to live without the fear and hate.
Some nights I wake up, heart racing again,
Like I’m back inside that cell with those same old men.
The past still echoes every place I go,
Some scars never fade, they just don’t show.
But I’m here for a reason, I still got breath,
So I won’t let my story end in regret.
Now I’m building something I can call my own,
Trying to find the peace I’ve never known.
If my story helps one person change their path,
Then every painful chapter wasn’t written just to last.
I can’t erase what I’ve seen.
I can’t change where I’ve been.
But I decide where I’m going.
And this time…
I’m walking toward the light.
