 when you live in the ghetto you still laugh
 you still cry 
you still run and play somehow you might get some skates 
you might even get used to playing eat the peg

and yes you still have to go to school 
and you still have to get good grades 
we went to church alot 
so you learn a lot about God 
and in the ghetto faith is your greatest currency especially when the lights get cut off 
and you have to wash up at the sink in cold water. Baking Soda is the deodorant and the toothpaste. 
Sometimes you don't have covers so you sleep under all your clothes 
while sleeping in your clothes. 
But even in those conditions you learn how to love each other and everyone.
 Yeah it's easy to love when you are poor but many don't know that like they don't know about 
syrup sandwiches and sugar water.
 When this becomes your everyday you remember what grandma or big mama said 
my daddy told me 
he said 
"Son what ever you be. 
Be the best!"

Sometimes we make it out

but end up right back. 
The bad thing 
is a lot of us die there.

or smart or not gifted.

and even bring guns 
and just leave them 
so we could get them. 
They put cameras in the light post to watch you try to survive. 
Then they round you up in the paddy wagon 
and take young boys to youth detention centers and boot camps.
A lot of them are now adults in private owned prisons becoming slaves again.
