The Liar and the Long Haul ⚓️
(Call & Response Style for the Crew)
(Verse 1)
(Solo/Lead) She'd swear upon the quarterdeck she loved me true and fast,
(Crew) Heave ho! The liar's sails are cast!
(Solo/Lead) I told the wench we'd tie the knot, before the time was past,
(Crew) Way-hay, and haul away the mast!
(Solo/Lead) She claimed I was her anchor, her only guiding light,
(Crew) Heave ho! Through the dark and stormy night!
(Solo/Lead) But she slipped her lines with a sailor boy and left me in a fright!
(Crew) She sailed right off, the scurvy blight!
(Chorus - Loud and Rousing)
(Solo/Lead) A lonely tar am I, with naught but bitter grog to sip,
(Crew) And a bottle of rum on my lip!
(Solo/Lead) She spoke of 'One and Only,' then she gave the ship the slip,
(Crew) Way-hay, and damn the bloody trip!
(Solo/Lead) She ran with a landsman, so raise yer voices high!
(Crew) Heave ho! We'll drink her canvas dry!
(Verse 2)
(Solo/Lead) It was a strange coincidence, how she came on my watch,
(Crew) Heave ho! Give the rail a scratch!
(Solo/Lead) I saw her by the dockside, she was a pretty catch,
(Crew) Way-hay, there wasn't time to fetch!
(Solo/Lead) She looked too fine to let her go, so I pressed my luck with glee,
(Crew) Heave ho! She was the one for me!
(Solo/Lead) I shouted, "Yo, me darlin'!" and she flinched, as wild as could be,
(Crew) She was scared by what she did see!
(Verse 3)
(Solo/Lead) She gave her name and number, and bid me call her soon,
(Crew) Heave ho! Beneath the silver moon!
(Solo/Lead) It took a month of sailin' 'fore I brought her 'neath my boom,
(Crew) Way-hay, we swept away the gloom!
(Solo/Lead) Everything was smooth as glass, we sailed the course just right,
(Crew) Heave ho! Our love was shining bright!
(Solo/Lead) She'd whisper, "You're my captain, my one and only own,"
(Crew) But she ran with another man and left me all alone!
(Verse 4)
(Solo/Lead) We shared our gold and biscuits, down to the very last crumb,
(Crew) Heave ho! We knew what was to come!
(Solo/Lead) I took her out for dinners, with fiddles, flute, and drum,
(Crew) Way-hay, we were feeling numb!
(Solo/Lead) She never showed a sign that the voyage was astray,
(Crew) Heave ho! She hid it well away!
(Solo/Lead) My mates all warned me, "Man, Shan, just scuttle her today!"
(Crew) But I loved the cursed castaway!
(Verse 5)
(Solo/Lead) Then the tides began to turn, and her compass spun clean round,
(Crew) Heave ho! She made an awful sound!
(Solo/Lead) Little squabbles and wild yarns, all over the cursed ground,
(Crew) Way-hay, the devil's work she found!
(Solo/Lead) I'd ask, "Where have you been, lass, all through the dark
