I don’t know what the future has for us,
And maybe that’s what scares me most.
I’ve spent this whole weekend looking for an answer,
Trying to figure out what I’m supposed to do.
I’ve prayed for some kind of sign,
Something that would tell me where to go.
And somewhere underneath all the noise,
I think I’ve always known.
The answer wasn’t that I stopped loving you.
It wasn’t that you stopped loving me.
Maybe the answer was simply
That love doesn’t always mean
You have to stay together right now.
And that’s the hardest thing
I’ve ever had to understand.
You mean absolutely everything to me,
More than I know how to explain.
You’re in so many of my memories,
In every beautiful part of my yesterday.
You’re the person I wanted to tell
When something good happened in my life.
You’re the person I wanted beside me
When everything felt too hard at night.
Somehow you became my safe place,
The person I could always find.
Even with miles between us,
You were never really far from my mind.
Three hours never felt like three hours
When I knew you were waiting there.
A phone call could make the whole world disappear,
Just knowing you cared.
And now we’re standing here,
Trying to figure out what comes next.
Still loving each other,
But knowing something has to change.
And I wish I had an easy answer.
I wish I could tell you where this goes.
But maybe we’re not supposed to know yet.
Maybe we just have to let it unfold.
It’s not never,
It’s just not right now.
I still want an us someday,
I just don’t know how.
Maybe we need to find ourselves
Before we find our way back home.
Maybe we need to learn to grow
Before we try to grow old.
I’m not saying forever.
I’m not saying we’re through.
I’m just saying right now
We need to become better versions of me and you.
And if we’re meant to find each other,
I believe somehow we will.
It’s not never, baby.
It’s just not right now
I’ve done a lot of praying lately,
More than I ever thought I would.
Asking for an answer,
Asking to understand what I should.
I wanted something clear,
Something that would take the choice away.
Something that could tell me
Exactly what I needed to say.
But the answer was already inside me,
Buried underneath my fear.
I knew we couldn’t keep going
Like everything was fine from here.
Because loving someone deeply
Doesn’t mean ignoring what hurts.
Sometimes the strongest thing you can do
Is admit that something isn’t working.
Not because the love isn’t real.
Not because the memories weren’t enough.
But because sometimes two people
Need time to become stronger on their own.
I don’t think no contact
Is what either of us needs.
I don’t want you becoming a stranger
Just because we’re trying to breathe.
I still want to know how your day was.
I still want to hear your voice.
I still want to be someone you can talk to,
Even if things aren’t what they were before.
But I know some things have to
