Armor Against the Night

In the shadows, the voices creep,

A monster lurking, a promise I can't keep.

Bills piling up with a weight on my chest,

But deep down inside, I still have to fight this jest.

When the wind blows, it calls my name,

Whispers of doubt set aflame,

The in-law's voice, sharp as a knife,

"Forget your dreams, cut your strife."

A glimmer of hope, I can't bring shame.

The abuser’s grip can’t hold me tight,

Rip out the cords of the voices in my mind,

Take back the power, I’m leaving them behind.

It's hard, I know, the nights feel long,

But in her heart, I’ve found my song.

Shadows whisper that I'm no good,

But I'm breaking free, like I always could.

Fists clenched tight, but my heart stays true,

With every step, I’m racing to you.

Use every technique, make the broken heal.
