It seems eons we have waited
To be emancipated
From this place on which we all have left our mark
But now that the time is here
We recall that childhood fear
The original one; the fear of the dark
The day that seemed so distant
Is at this very instant
Casting its opaque shadow on us all
The darkness of the unknown
Marks a shadowy tone
For united we stood and alone we might fall
So we search for the light
To brighten the black night
A lantern that forever onward will burn
When that search is finally done
And we have then begun
To understand everything we have learned
Our parents were the spark
That lit the phantom dark
When we were those little kids of long ago
And as we went through school
Our teachers were the fuel
That made us who we are and taught us what we know
Now it’s time again to claim
That familiar burning flame
The lantern that guides us straight and true
While the fire’s burning bright
We’ll begin to see the light
The lantern burns strong in me and you
