Battling Demons

Wrestlin' shadows in a darkened room, no spotlight,

Demons spread their wings, featherweight 'bout to fight,

Past mistakes echo loud, tone metal spike,

Clinging to my mind, talons grip, cold night.

Pockets full of dreams but reality in debt,

Paved in roadblocks, pain's a teacher I've met,

In the eye of the storm, caught without a net,

Soul's a battlefield, scars ink silhouette.

Strugglin' and survivin', every day a test,

Heart heavy, soul confined, layin' stress to rest,

Walkin' tightropes, hopin' for that one jest,

Rise from ashes, phoenix in life's treasure chest.

Broke bread with despair, ate sorrow's feast,

Hope flickers dim, but ain't deceased,

On the city's edge, lookin' for that peace,

Dreams whispered faint, a fleeting beast.

Tears mix with rain, sorrow streams blend,

Life's a harsh teacher, no paper or pen,

Lost count of nights, toss and turn descend,
