GOD CAN USE A DONKEY
[Verse 1]
Balaam had a place to go,
A road to ride, a plan he knew,
But standing there with sword in hand
Was something only one could view.
That old donkey hit the brakes,
Balaam cursed her, “What’s with you?”
Then God gave that old girl a voice—
And suddenly she told the truth.
[Pre-Chorus]
Sometimes the thing that’s in your way
Is Heaven saying, “Not today.”
[Chorus]
God can use a donkey,
God can use a fool,
God can use somebody
You would never listen to.
So when somebody stops you,
Before you push on through—
Maybe they’re not in your way,
Maybe God’s talking to you.
[Verse 2]
We talk to donkeys every day,
At work, at home, out on the street,
People we dismiss too fast,
People we don’t think we need.
We want our prophets polished,
With a platform and a name,
But God still loves surprising us—
He’s always worked that way.
[Chorus]
God can use a donkey,
God can use a fool,
God can use somebody
You would never listen to.
So when somebody stops you,
Before you push on through—
Maybe they’re not in your way,
Maybe God’s talking to you.
[Bridge]
Open my eyes, Lord,
Open my ears,
Cut through the pride
That’s been talking for years.
If You’re trying to warn me,
Don’t let me ride on by—
Sometimes the least expected voice
Is the one that gets it right!
[Breakdown / Call & Response]
Who saw the angel?
THE DONKEY!
Who stopped the ride?
THE DONKEY!
Who saw the truth
Balaam couldn’t see?
THE DONKEY!
So tell me—
Who’s the stubborn one now?
[Final Chorus]
God can use a donkey,
God can use a fool,
God can use the least of us
To tell the greatest truth.
So keep my heart wide open,
Lord, whatever You may do—
If You can speak through Balaam’s donkey,
You can speak through me and you.
[Outro]
Yeah, God can use anybody—
That’s what makes the story true.
So before you blame the donkey…
Make sure the donkey
ain’t talking
to you.
